Long Island experienced hazardous conditions as freezing temperatures caused untreated roads, sidewalks, and parking lots to become coated in ice. While main roads remained mostly passable, side roads and other untreated areas were extremely slippery, leading to numerous accidents.

Suffolk County Police responded to approximately 200 crashes during and after the storm, while Nassau County authorities also dealt with severe weather impacts. Residents are advised to take extra precautions, drive slowly, and watch for black ice as they commute.

Yeah, well, we're standing right now. We've been sort of slipping and sliding, just like I'd say a lot of Long Islanders are today. It's been really bad out there where, you know, when you're talking about these side roads, the sidewalks, the parking lots, like we're in right here off of Sunrise, just covered in a thick layer of ice. And it is posing challenges for a lot of people. I mean, you can take a look at it. I mean, it's pretty bad out here for drivers and for anyone who's just trying to walk from place to place today. Really, anything that wasn't properly plowed or salted is basically a skating rink today. And that's because these temperatures just downright freezing so far this morning. And again, we're talking about just so much of this ice right now. The good news is most of the main roads we've been hearing from people, they tell us they look okay. The service roads though, neighborhoods, parking lots, sidewalks, those are all pretty dangerous across the island in terms of just how much ice there is out there. And you want to be really careful. And Suffolk County Police say that during and after the storm, they dealt with about 200 crashes. And then Nassau County Police, they haven't given us the number yet, but we know that they've also dealt with that bad weather as well that rolled through. And people we're speaking with say the good news again is while the side roads don't look so good, the main roads, they're all right. People feel like they're able to get where they need to go today. As far as I can see, they're pretty good. You gotta wake up, you gotta go to work no matter what, right? Yeah, and that's absolutely true. But of course, if you're gonna do that, you gotta make sure that you are taking it easy today. You want to just, you know, take the extra precautions. Good advice. If you see that you're driving, your neighborhood sort of looks like where we're standing now, which is covered in ice, take it slow because you know it's there. If you don't see anything, it looks pretty good. Just be careful. There could be some black ice there as well that you don't see and just leave a little extra room to you and everyone else around you today because you just want to make sure you have a little extra time to break just in case you want to make sure you prevent any potential accidents.
