Crowds fled in panic from Sydney's famous Bondi Beach, as shots rang out on Sunday evening. -"So, I just sort of saw them all the way over there, just people start running, and I'm going, well, maybe it's like a one-time shooting, not like a — like, it's not America. It's like not a massacre event. But, um, turns out it was, and the whole shop just, like, stood up, and we all just ran into the back exit." The shooters, positioned on a nearby bridge, fired at the weekend beachgoers, killing several. Police responded rapidly. One bystander was able to temporarily disarm a gunman. On the beach, a Hanukkah celebration was taking place. Hundreds had gathered to share the start of the Jewish holiday together. -"There were lots of bodies on the floor. It was a fenced-in event, so it was kind of like, I don't know, fish in a barrel." The Australian authorities called the attack a terrorist incident, targeting the nation's Jewish community. -"This is a targeted attack on Jewish Australians on the first day of Hanukkah, which should be a day of joy, a celebration of faith, an act of evil anti-Semitism, terrorism, that has struck the heart of our nation." Police report that one of the shooters was killed and another has been taken into custody. Investigators also identified an explosive device in one of the suspects' cars.

Providence police have detained a "person of interest" in connection with the Brown University shooting that left two students dead and another nine people wounded, as the Ivy League school said it had lifted a shelter-in-place order for its campus in Rhode Island.
