Police responded to a shooting at Brown University's engineering building, where a gunman opened fire inside a classroom, resulting in two deaths and at least nine injuries. The campus was placed on lockdown as officers searched for the suspect and escorted students to safety. 

Authorities initially detained a person of interest based on an FBI tip but released the individual after evidence led them in a different direction. The search for the person seen in surveillance footage continues, and Brown University has canceled all remaining finals and classes. Seven victims remain hospitalized in stable condition, one is in critical condition, and one has been released.

This is an active shooter incident. First responders rushed to Brown University's engineering building Saturday afternoon after a shooter fired dozens of rounds inside a classroom, killing two students and injuring at least nine others. The campus, filled with students studying for finals week, went into lockdown as officers escorted students to safety and swept buildings searching for the shooter. Police released this video late Saturday showing a person of interest on campus. Then Sunday morning, police said they followed an FBI tip to this hotel 20 miles away and detained someone they called a person of interest. More than 12 hours later, police revealed they are releasing that individual, saying their investigation took them in a different direction. There was some degree of evidence that pointed to this individual, but that evidence needed to be corroborated and confirmed. And over the last 24 hours, leading into just very, very recently, that evidence now points in a different direction. Police are still searching for the person in this video. We followed on a lead and we followed on this specific lead. It's not a mistake. It's just how investigations work. We just heard like five shots ring out and we didn't really know what it was at first. Freshman Alex Mihaljevic was studying with friends when he heard gunfire. We were close to an exit, so we just like ran straight for that. Mihaljevic said it wasn't until he was outside that it became clear there was a shooting. He said he saw someone lying on the floor. So at that point, we just looked at each other and just ran. Kamari Mann said his roommate was one of the students killed. I'm grieving the loss of him would be felt throughout this community. And police have not revealed the names of the widow, but we do have an update on their condition. Seven remain in the hospital in stable condition. One is in critical condition and a ninth person has been released. Meanwhile, the university has canceled all remaining finals and classes. All right. Thank you.
