Australian authorities have confirmed that a father and son were responsible for the mass shooting at a Jewish Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach in Sydney. The attack resulted in the deaths of more than a dozen people, including a 10-year-old girl, and left dozens hospitalized. 

Police described the incident as a targeted anti-Semitic attack, noting it was the most serious in a series of such incidents since October 2023. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the violence, expressed solidarity with the Jewish community, and vowed to take action to combat anti-Semitism in the country.

Police now say a father and son duo were behind the attack. We are satisfied that there were two offenders involved in yesterday's incident. One is deceased. The second is in critical but stable condition in hospital at the moment. The offenders are a 50-year-old and 24-year-old male who are father and son. Officials have described the shooting on Sunday as a targeted anti-Semitic attack. Eyewitness video showed celebrations taking place at the event. And then people fleeing after the gunmen opened fire. Witnesses said the attack lasted about 10 minutes. Police said around 1,000 people had attended. Drone video verified by Reuters appears to show at least one of the suspects on a bridge overlooking the scene, firing his weapon repeatedly before falling to the ground. Sunday's shootings were the most serious of a string of anti-Semitic attacks on synagogues, buildings and cars in Australia since the beginning of Israel's war in Gaza in October 2023. As Australia mourned the victims of its worst gun violence in almost 30 years, Prime Minister Albanese said he would take action. And the Jewish community are hurting today. Today all Australians wrap our arms around them and say we stand with you. We will do whatever is necessary to stamp out anti-Semitism. It is a scourge and we will eradicate it together.

The person of interest authorities took into custody in connection with the shooting at Brown University has been identified as Benjamin Erickson. He's a 24 year old, originally from Wisconsin.
