Missouri River Relief is launching its most ambitious cleanup project yet as the organization celebrates its 25th anniversary with a massive "clean sweep" of the Missouri River.

Missouri River Relief, a Kansas City-based environmental group, is seeking donations to support its largest river cleanup project to date. The organization plans to spend two months on the Missouri River, starting from Labanip Park, with the goal of removing 30 tons of trash as part of its 25th anniversary efforts.

The group, which has operated since 2001, has grown significantly, now involving hundreds of volunteers and thousands of students in its activities. In addition to cleanups, Missouri River Relief organizes educational field trips and the MR 340 race, with donations supporting all aspects of its expanding mission.

They've done lots of different cleanups in the Kansas City area to actually took this video when they had one of their last cleanups in 2024 at their Casey spot two years ago. I found out that the donations they're raising right now will go toward their biggest cleanup project yet. Missouri River Relief puts on the big MLR 340 race, but they've also spent more than two decades pulling trash from the river. It's tires, it's scrap metal, old appliances, all of it hauled out by volunteers. For their 25th year, they're doing a huge clean sweep event. They're going to start out at their Casey launch point at Labanip Park and on the river for two months, hoping to pick out 30 tons of trash. They say it's their most ambitious cleanup project yet. What started out is a couple of people around a picnic table in 2001 has grown into this huge logistical organization engaging hundreds and hundreds of volunteers every year, removing tons of trash and engaging thousands of students. Yeah, he mentioned students as well. They're still figuring out the exact dates and locations of the big cleanup, but they also help out students. They take them on field trips. There's a big educational component. There's also the MR 340 race, which I know Marlon covered for us in the past too. So they do a lot and that's what these donations are all going to go towards all three of those facets. So I'll put up a link online for people who want to either sign up or volunteer or maybe they want to race. There's a lot that they can do. So I'll make sure to put that link up there. River is a huge part of Kansas City and if you don't take care of it volunteering there to like they're paying some people like this is not just to go and help out the goodness of your heart situation. Yeah, they've actually expanded over the last couple of years. They've been hiring more people on staff because their project, their mission has only gotten bigger.
