Staff and volunteers emphasize the importance of the shelter, noting it saves lives by protecting vulnerable individuals from the dangers of exposure, violence, and other risks faced on the streets. The city has announced that the warming center will remain open to continue supporting those in need.

What you see is basically what I was able to design to feed the maximum number of people possible in the shortest amount of time possible. John Olsak is the food service director for ST Francis Serif Ministries, who's helped open the doors of the ST Anthony Center as the city of Cincinnati's extreme winter weather daytime shelter this season. The temperatures are so extreme that being out in the cold for any length of time is really kind of dangerous. And most of us, you know, we we don't like think of it the way that you would have to think of it if you were unhoused. You know, the center is open from six in the morning to seven in the evening, while also providing transportation for those who need a place to stay overnight. They got their heart in the right place for us, and that's a good thing. Guests are able to enjoy a hot meal and recharge their batteries. I've seen people freeze to death out there. I sat down with Michael Trosper, who says he was previously homeless and knows that centers like ST Anthony's are saving lives. It's scary out there because you don't know if you're gonna wake up this cold or you don't know if you're gonna get robbed or stabbed or shot. Staff members like Olsak make sure their work is all about the people who need it most. You know, some people are mentally ill. Some people are addicted. Some people just are having a bad day. Um, and to have this place here to do this, it's incredibly meaningful. The city announced that the warming center will also be open on Monday, reporting in Cincinnati, Sam Harris, some of its WCPO nine news.
