Prior to carrying out a deadly attack on a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the 40-year-old gunman expressed animosity toward the faith, a candidate for city council in Burton told FOX 2 News.

In Michigan, a man who later carried out a church shooting spoke with Burton City Council candidate Chris Johns just two days prior to the attack. During their conversation, the shooter, a military veteran, expressed strong animosity towards the Mormon faith, describing Mormons as the 'Antichrist' and criticizing their religious beliefs. 

Johns, who was campaigning door-to-door, recalled that the discussion centered on the shooter's personal history and his negative views about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There was no mention of political issues or current events. The encounter has left Johns shocked, especially after learning the man he spoke with was responsible for the subsequent violence.
