Imelda is now a Category 1 hurricane, threatening dangerous weather conditions on the East Coast alongside Hurricane Humberto. CBS News' Rob Marciano has more details.

Tropical Storm Imelda has been upgraded to a hurricane, with sustained winds reaching 80 miles per hour. The storm, in combination with Hurricane Humberto, is producing life-threatening rip currents, large surf, coastal flooding, and beach erosion along the US East Coast, from Miami to Maine.

While Imelda is turning away from the coast, dangerous conditions persist for beachgoers and residents. Hurricane warnings have also been issued for Bermuda, as both storms begin to move away from the mainland.

All right, weather now tropical storm Imelda was upgraded to a hurricane this morning. The combination of Imelda and Hurricane Humberto is bringing life threatening rip currents to U. S. Beaches. CBS News national weather correspondent Rob Marciano is live at one of those beaches bracing for potentially dangerous conditions in Folly Beach, South Carolina. Rob, what's the latest? A big surf spot here. As you know, Vlad, the surf has been building as Imelda continues to strengthen 80 mile an hour now sustained winds. So that's the 11 a.m. Upgrade update. And Barrett is actually decreases. They're both at 80 right now, so we know they've been interacting with each other. But thankfully, Imelda is making that right term. So it is heading away. But dangerous rip currents, big time surf coastal flooding and beach erosion is gonna be the case again from Miami all the way to Maine with that. So we're happy to get a miss. But the folks who live here on the coastlines of the U. S. Are certainly tired of these of these hurricanes. Uh, so we'll say bye bye to Imelda and Humberto. Hurricane warnings are up, by the way, for Bermuda. That'll get a quick head of that Wednesday night, and we've got a couple of dozen surfers out here, uh, Vlad.
