The strikes resulted in the deaths of over two dozen Palestinians, primarily from a hit on a house in New Sirat in the central Gaza Strip, as stated by Gaza health officials and Hamas representatives. Abu Khaled Monaz, a nearby resident, reported that the house was flattened, resulting in the loss of all occupants except for an eight or nine-month-old boy.

The attacks coincided with a visit by White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, who met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The United States has urged Israel to adopt a more focused military strategy. Washington is particularly concerned about the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians displaced by Israeli actions, who reportedly see the targeted city as a last safe haven.

Rafah resident Majid Omran described the dire situation, mentioning that his family had returned to their destroyed home in Hanounis with no other place to go. He highlighted the pervasive lack of safety across the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, Israeli forces have also advanced into Jabalia's narrow alleyways, a northern Gaza locale known for being one of the eight historic refugee camps. The Israeli military claims their operations are strategically aimed at preventing Hamas from regaining control in these areas.

According to Israeli reports, the conflict was triggered by an October 7th assault by Hamas, resulting in 1,200 Israeli deaths. Since the conflict began, more than 35,300 Palestinians have reportedly been killed by Israeli strikes. Aid agencies have raised alarms regarding severe shortages of food, fuel, and medical supplies in Gaza.

The Israeli military has said its operations in Jabalia, the largest of Gaza's eight historic refugee camps, are precise and meant to stop Hamas from re-establishing its grip there. According to Israeli tallies, the October 7th Hamas assault on Israel that sparked the war killed 1,200 people. More than 35,300 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes since then, according to the enclave's health ministry. Aid agencies have warned of widespread hunger in Gaza and shortages of fuel and medical supplies.
