North Dakota, Michigan, and South Dakota are among the states where temperatures may approach or exceed previous records, with South Dakota potentially surpassing a record set in 1963 by three degrees. 

This period of warmth coincides with the typical time of year when the Midwest experiences its last 80-degree day, making the current heatwave notable for its intensity and timing.
