AccuWeather's Bernie Rayno breaks down the rain and snow risk for the Northwest this week.

The Northwest United States is expected to experience a stormy week, with multiple weather systems bringing heavy rain and colder temperatures. Western Washington and western Oregon are forecast to receive significant rainfall, leading to an increased risk of flooding as rivers may rise to major flood stage by the end of the week.

Additionally, the colder nature of these storms will result in substantial snowfall in the Washington and Oregon Cascades, with snow accumulations in some mountain passes expected to reach several feet. These conditions are likely to create hazardous travel and elevate the risk of both flooding and snow-related disruptions.

Stormy week ahead for Northwest

After a break from the rain in the northwest this weekend, we have a stormy week ahead, and that means more flooding. Take a look at the rainfall over the next seven days. You could see two epicenters of rain early this weekend in the midweek across western Washington, and then later this week in the western Oregon. Now, for this week, we're tracking three storms, one leaving today, another one just off the Washington coast that will be arriving Tuesday night into Wednesday, and then take a look at the storm in northern Alaska. That will be arriving as we head into Thursday. These are going to be much colder storms, by the way, but they have a lot of moisture with them. So once again, there's going to be the threat for flooding. A lot of the rivers have gone down in the minor flood stage. They will be going back up in the major flood stage by Friday. As I mentioned, much different storms, though they're colder, which means snow starts to become a huge problem first in the Washington Cascades, Tuesday into Thursday, and then the Oregon Cascades later in the week. And through those passes, especially in the Washington passes, we'll be measuring the snow in feet.
