The run from Brooklyn through the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel into Lower Manhattan honors the 343 firefighters, law enforcement officers and thousands of civilians who died on 9/11.

The Tunnel to Towers 5K marked its 24th year, bringing together thousands of participants in Lower Manhattan to honor first responders who lost their lives during the 9-11 attacks and those who later died from related illnesses. Firefighters ran in full gear, joined by families and children, all commemorating the legacy of FDNY firefighter Steven Siller and others who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The event served as both a race and a tribute, with participants running from Red Hook through the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel to the World Trade Center. The atmosphere was one of unity and remembrance, as families and first responders came together to carry forward the memory of those lost.

It's pretty cool today and every step these firefighters take is in honor of those who lost their lives on 9-11. Families gather, children excited, firefighters dressed in full gear stepping forward in unity and remembrance. This 5k isn't just a race, it's a tribute to the lives lost on 9-11 honoring the legacy of FDNY firefighter Steven Siller and all of those who made the ultimate sacrifice that day and for the heroes who later lost their lives to 9-11 related illnesses.
