A political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, led by actor and politician Vijay, resulted in a deadly stampede, leaving dozens dead and more than 50 people injured. The incident occurred as thousands gathered around Vijay's vehicle, with video showing him appealing for police assistance and distributing water to fainting supporters.

Vijay, who launched his political party in 2024, has attracted large crowds at his events, with previous rallies also raising safety concerns. Both Vijay and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed condolences following the tragedy.

Video provided by his party shows thousands of people surrounding a vehicle, on top of which Vijay is seen standing and speaking. Other images showed Vijay throwing water bottles to fainting supporters and calling for police help when the crowd became uncontrollable. Vijay has drawn massive crowds to his public meetings since launching his political party in 2024. This is not the first time Vijay's rallies have faced safety concerns. At least six deaths were reported following the first meeting of his political party in October. Both Vijay and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed their condolences Saturday on X.

According to the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, a store, ten retail outlets, two apartment buildings, and several non-residential premises were damaged.
