Surveillance footage captured a gunman firing at detainees and ICE agents at a Dallas immigration facility, resulting in one fatality and two people in critical condition. Among the victims was Miguel Angel Garcia, a Mexican national undergoing the citizenship process, who was shot multiple times and remains on life support. Authorities found a bullet inscribed with 'anti-ice' at the scene, prompting the U.S. Attorney General to deploy additional agents to ICE facilities nationwide for increased security. 

The attack comes amid escalating tensions over immigration enforcement, with recent incidents involving ICE agents in New York, Maryland, and Chicago, as well as protests following the arrest of a school superintendent in Iowa. Federal statistics indicate that a growing number of ICE detainees have no criminal charges, being held solely for civil immigration violations.

Today, President Trump used social media to say he's sending U.S. troops to Portland, Oregon, in the latest deployment of forces to an American city. The president, who golfed today in Virginia, described Portland as war-ravaged and called ice facilities under siege. Trump also authorized, quote, full force if necessary. In a statement, Governor Tina Kotech, a Democrat, said there is no national security threat in Portland, adding our communities are safe and calm. Democratic Senator Ron Wyden shared this video showing a quiet scene outside the ice facility in Portland. The crackdown on illegal immigration has raised tensions nationwide. Today, we talked to the wife of one of the victims who says her husband is clinging to life. It's been really hard. Stephanie Goffney, a U.S. citizen, is Garcia's wife. She is pregnant and they share four children. Goffney says Garcia was going through the citizenship process when he was arrested for a DUI and picked up by ice. She can't bring herself to think about a future without him. I'm so tired. Like, I'm tired of being strong, you know. Bullets found near the scene included one with the words anti-ice. This attack, yet again, underscores the dangers that law enforcement face daily. Now, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi says she's deploying agents to ice facilities nationwide to protect officers. Ice tactics are inflaming tensions. In New York City, this federal immigration officer seen shoving a woman to the ground in a courthouse has been placed on lead while an investigation is conducted. In Maryland, agents detained a man in the middle of an intersection when an officer's gun falls in the street. The agent picks it up and points it at bystanders. Outside a suburban Chicago ice facility, federal agents used tear gas and pepper balls to disperse protesters. Several people were arrested. And in Iowa, protests after agents arrested the superintendent of the Des Moines School District, Ian Roberts. Officials say he was a fugitive, living and working in the country illegally. There is much we do not know. However, what we do know is that Dr. Roberts has been an integral part of our school community since he joined over two years ago. The latest federal government stats show that ICE is holding more detainees who do not have any criminal charges or convictions. They do have civil immigration violations. Jerika.
