A fire broke out at the Post Road Garden Center, a senior apartment complex in Bayonne, New Jersey, resulting in the death of one resident. Eight officers suffered injuries, primarily from smoke inhalation, while evacuating residents from the building.

The Bayonne Fire and Police Departments responded by moving residents to safety, both outside and to lower floors. The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office is currently investigating the cause of the fire.

New this afternoon, a resident is dead, eight officers injured after fire breaks out at a senior apartment complex in Bayonne. The chief tells News 12 that person was pulled out of the burning building earlier this morning. Flames first broke out on the third floor of the Post Road Garden Center on Avenue A. The chief says the officers are recovering after suffering from smoke inhalation while trying to get everybody out. The Bayonne Fire Department and Bayonne Police Department continue to evacuate residents to outside of the building and also to lower floors of the building to keep them safe. The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office is investigating what caused this fire.

A Delaware state trooper was killed Tuesday during a shooting at a Wilmington DMV, the Delaware State Police said. The state's governor confirmed the shooter is also dead.
