The U.S. Department of Justice released a new set of Jeffrey Epstein case files, many of which are heavily redacted. The release has intensified political debate, with some lawmakers, including Rep. Ro Khanna, criticizing the DOJ for withholding documents and threatening to hold Attorney General Pam Bondi in contempt if more files are not made public.

The files include photos of public figures and a 1996 report from survivor Maria Farmer alleging child pornography, raising questions about past investigations. The DOJ defended redactions as necessary to protect victims, while Epstein survivors plan to press Congress for full disclosure if the remaining files are not released.

My interest is getting the documents out. Some files, including one with a photo of Trump and women, were posted, then taken down, then posted again. Others were completely blacked out, which the Department of Justice defended as necessary to protect victims' identities. A lot of people are very angry that pictures are being released of other people that really had nothing to do with Epstein, but they're in a picture with him because he was at a party, and you ruin the reputation of somebody. The president reacted to the release of files. I don't like the pictures of Bill Clinton being shown. I don't like the pictures of other people being shown. I think it's a terrible thing. Among the documents causing alarm, a 1996 report confirming Epstein survivor Maria Farmer asked the FBI to investigate him for possession of child pornography. I think seeing this evidence just begs the question of why was nothing done? This is not a small crime that she was reporting, child pornography. The Department of Justice did not respond to requests for comment. CBS News has learned a group of Epstein survivors are planning to come back here to Washington in January to the Capitol to try to press Congress to intervene if the full files aren't released in short order.
