Prosecutors allege the couple failed to declare valuable gifts from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. This conviction is separate from an earlier case involving luxury watches, which also resulted in lengthy prison terms. The UN special rapporteur on torture has raised concerns about the conditions of Khan's detention, warning they may amount to torture.

He and his wife Bushra Bibi were handed a 10-year term on breach of trust and seven years on corruption charges in a case alleging the underpricing of state gifts. That's 17 years in all. His party, the PTI, condemned the ruling, saying on social media, the decision in the Tosha Khan II case, delivered through a closed-door jail trial when neither Imran Khan's lead counsel nor his family was present, has once again demonstrated that Pakistan's judiciary has been stripped of all legitimacy. Khan was Prime Minister from 2018 till his ouster in 2022. He and his wife pleaded not guilty when they were indicted in the case last year. Prosecutors allege the couple failed to declare gifts of jewellery given by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in 2021. The case is separate to an earlier one involving luxury watches also gifted by the Saudi Crown Prince, which resulted in a 14-year prison term for Khan and seven for his wife. The former cricket champion has been serving multiple prison terms since 2003 on corruption convictions and other charges. He denies all of them. His supporters reject them as politically motivated. His sons in a recent interview with Sky News expressed fears for their father. Right now the conditions are getting worse. The people in power are becoming more entrenched. We're now worried we might never see him again. The UN special rapporteur on torture last week condemned the inhumane and undignified conditions in which Imran Khan is being held, warning that they could amount to torture.
