Port Authority officials have confirmed that an on-duty Customs and Border Protection officer fired multiple gunshots after a car crash on the Van Wyck Expressway near JFK Airport. The incident occurred at approximately 4:45 a.m., with the officer reporting that he was assaulted by the other driver before discharging his weapon.

When Port Authority Police arrived at the scene, the driver involved in the altercation was no longer present. The ongoing investigation has resulted in traffic delays and detours in the vicinity of JFK Airport.

Officials inside the Port Authority confirm that an on-duty Customs and Border Protection officer is the one who fired the gunshots following a car crash on the Van Wyck Expressway. It all happened around 4.45 this morning. Those sources tell us that the officer said a driver assaulted him after the crash and he fired his gun multiple times. We're told that driver was not on scene when the PAPD arrived. The investigation is sparking delays and detours in the area outside of JFK Airport.
