Former U.S. President Donald Trump has initiated a $10 billion lawsuit against the BBC, claiming the broadcaster's Panorama program aired a misleadingly edited video that falsely suggested he called for violent action. Trump is seeking $5 billion for defamation and an additional $5 billion for deceptive and unfair trade practices. 

The BBC acknowledged that the video edit gave a mistaken impression and apologized, but rejected the grounds for a defamation lawsuit. The incident led to the resignation of the BBC's director general and head of news. This lawsuit follows other recent defamation actions by Trump against major media outlets.

Trump's lawsuit will seek no less than $5 billion for defamation and another $5 billion for deceptive and unfair trade practices. In November, the BBC's director general and its head of news stepped down over the controversy. The lawsuit is the latest in a series of defamation complaints that Trump has filed against media outlets. In September, he sued the New York Times for $15 billion for defamation. And in July, Trump sued media mogul Rupert Murdoch and the Wall Street Journal over a report claiming he sent sex offender Jeffrey Epstein a lewd birthday card.
