The investigation faced a setback after an initial person of interest was detained and subsequently released. Seven of the nine wounded remain hospitalized, and university officials have reiterated their commitment to campus safety as the community continues to mourn the victims.

Some cases are broken this way after a period of days we've seen even recently, and I'm confident we're going to get there as soon as possible. There are 1,200 surveillance cameras across Brown University's campus, but apparently none was in a position to provide helpful footage of the shooter. Brown University President Christina Paxson defended school security. Brown is deeply committed to the safety and security and well-being of our community, and I've been deeply saddened to see people questioning that. As students and local residents continued to pay tribute to those killed and injured, we learned seven of the nine wounded remain in the hospital. CBS News spoke with one of them, freshman Jacob Spears. He was shot coming out of a study session. First I was confused, but then I realized what was happening. I ran. He got me in the back, but adrenaline did me good, and I was able to get up and run. Law enforcement officials have acknowledged the investigation was set back after FBI Director Kash Patel announced Sunday morning they had detained a person of interest, only to release the individual hours later. Expectations were raised, frankly, by the FBI director. And when you say you have somebody in custody, that's sending a signal that it's the guy. And the attorney general confirmed tonight that while there is video from inside the building where the shooting took place, which they have reviewed, the person of interest they are pursuing was not seen inside.
