The court is now in session. While the court did not see Tyler Robinson's face, the alleged shooter in Charlie Kirk's death appeared remotely for a brief hearing on Monday. And to the jail, do we have Mr. Robinson present? Yes, your honor. Robinson's newly appointed attorney, Kathy Nestor, appearing for the first time as his counsel. She asked the presiding judge for more time to review the, quote, voluminous amount of evidence in the case. I imagine we're going to see the defense trying to drag this out for as long as they possibly can. Robinson is facing a flurry of state charges in connection to Kirk's assassination, including aggravated murder. Prosecutors say they are seeking the death penalty. Some legal experts say his defense attorneys may look to spare Robinson from death row. If they're able to call into question the aggravating circumstance, in this case being the idea that at the time of the murder other people's lives were put in danger, then they can take the death penalty off the table. Judge Tony Graff told the court the proceedings will remain open to the public and assures he will do his job with, quote, transparency and impartiality. Justice demands that both of these principles, the rights of the accused and the rights of victims, be honored without compromise. Treating every person who appears before me with the dignity and respect they inherently do. The next hearing is set for October 30th, where Robinson is expected to appear in person.
