A high-profile activist appeared in court with visible injuries, and the president's son, who is also the military chief, reportedly boasted online about the torture before deleting the posts. Concerns are mounting about the credibility of the upcoming general election, with memories of violence and unresolved killings from previous polls still fresh among the public.

The opposition says dozens of its members have been arrested, some tortured. Bobby Wine is calling on Ugandans to rise up. BOBBY WINE, President, Uganda National Assembly We know that when people rise, campaign in protest, mobilize people to vote in protest of the injustice and impunity. Vote massively and overwhelmingly in protest, and guard their vote in protest. That will prepare their minds to protest even further in case their voice is averted. This activist appeared in court visibly bruised. The military chief, who is also the president's son, bragged online about torturing him, before deleting the tweets. BOBBY WINE, President, Uganda National Assembly No government official is above the law. So, if he has tortured that individual or any other, then that person should register a complaint formally, and then that complaint would be investigated. The general election is in January, but some Ugandans are concerned it might not be free or fair. The last election was marred by violence and running battles between police and opposition supporters. Several are still in jail. Some politicians are worried there could be a repeat of the same in the coming polls. At a recent by-election, security forces were accused of attacking voters and journalists. The government blamed the opposition for sparking the trouble. We have a situation of unaccounted for killings, Kampala killings, November 18, 19, 2020, a massacre that was officially put at 54 by government, but other sources put the deaths above 100.
