He reiterated concerns about price gouging and the lack of competition in Australian supermarkets, encouraging the UAE-based Lulu supermarket chain to consider entering the Australian market.

Albanese also visited the Grand Mosque and was scheduled to meet with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed to discuss regional issues, including the conflict in Gaza and Australia's recent declaration of Palestinian statehood at the United Nations. The visit marked the final stop on Albanese's 11-day trip.

This was an Albanese government negotiated deal, so he was here in a supermarket. It's a multi-chain one in the Middle East. He was looking at Aussie products and what was interesting, or perhaps alarming, was the fact that the Australian beef on the shelves was cheaper here than at home. When asked, the Prime Minister repeated claims about price gouging in supermarkets at home and lamented the lack of competition. So he has asked the owner of the Lulu chain, who was with him in the supermarket today, to consider Australia as an option. There are 300 supermarkets just like this one. I've encouraged him to come to Australia as well. We need more competition in the Australian supermarket sector. And we've had a little discussion about that as I've been walking around. Earlier today, the Prime Minister toured the Grand Mosque. He went to pay his respects at the famous and spectacular spot in Abu Dhabi. Later, he'll meet with the UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed. That's an important conversation at this time about the conflict in Gaza, after Australia declared Palestinian statehood at the UN last week. Anthony Albanese says he and other countries are looking for the next step and Arab countries are crucial in that. And then that's it. That's the final item on the agenda for Anthony Albanese in this 11-day trip.
