We expect more details today from the investigation into yesterday's deadly shooting and fire at a Mormon church in Michigan. Authorities have identified the suspect as Thomas Jacob Sanford. They say he intentionally rammed his truck into the building, got out and shot worshippers inside with an assault rifle, and then set the church on fire. He was killed on the scene in a shootout with police just eight minutes into the attack. According to military records, he was 40 years old, a U.S. Marine from 2004 to 2008, and a veteran of the war in Iraq. The FBI has said yesterday's shooting was, quote, an act of targeted violence. So yes, the FBI is leading things. Michael Yoshida is reporting on the story for CNN, and we have him live for us as well this morning near the scene in Grand Blanc, Michigan. I was mentioning the details we have so far about what happened, Michael, and the suspect. What are you learning this morning that adds new information about what happened there? Hey, good morning, Heather. You mentioned it, this shooting happening less than 24 hours ago here in Grand Blanc, Michigan at this church just down the road. You can see behind us still a heavy law enforcement presence as the road remains blocked. Officers are here on the scene continuing to search for answers, but also continuing to search for more potential victims. There was the shooting, then the church was set on fire by the gunmen. Investigators have shown us that there are up to seven still unaccounted for, and that they believe they'll potentially find more victims once they're able to get back going through the rubble of what's left of that church. This all happened about 20 minutes into the Sunday service at this church. That gunman, as you described, ramming his vehicle into the front of the building, then opening fire on hundreds who were gathered inside, gathering as a community, taking part in prayer. We're told that those inside jumping to cover children who were there as well. Investigators telling us last night at least four people have died, at least eight also injured. And at this point, again, the main focus at this point is figuring out what may have led to this. A lot of questions about potential motive and also, of course, trying to figure out if there are more victims still in that church. And as far as the community, a small town, how are people there reacting today? Yeah, a very small community. We're about an hour northwest of Detroit, Michigan. For those who are familiar with this part of the United States, one of my colleagues having a chance to speak with someone who lives on this street describing yesterday's events as disturbing. Again, this was a Sunday morning. People gathered here to take part in their normal routine, their normal Sunday service. We know that resources have been opened up for members of the community, support services, as they try to process what happened here. Again, we know four people killed, eight at least injured, and again, a search ongoing for some who are still unaccounted for following this violence on a Sunday morning. Thank you, Michael.
