Severe weather led to significant disruptions at Newark Liberty International Airport, with almost 500 flight delays and more than 200 cancellations reported as of 5 p.m. Both domestic and international flights were affected, causing long lines and frustration among passengers attempting to rebook. 

Travelers described waiting for hours on the runway before flights were canceled, and many sought alternative travel options. Airport authorities advised passengers to check their flight status before arriving and to expect continued delays and cancellations into the evening.

Now, while there was certainly fun to be had in the snow, some travelers, unfortunately, having a lot less fun today at the airport. As of 5 p.m., there were almost 500 delays and over 200 cancellations over at Newark Airport because of the weather. Right now, News 12 New Jersey's Christine Qualey is live at the airport. Christine, what's the latest? Yeah, Naomi, so I think if you take a look at this board here, it really speaks for itself. You see delays, cancellations all across the board here. We're talking about from Quebec to Fort Lauderdale, domestic and international flights as well that have multiple hours of delays, some that are completely canceled altogether. What I like to say in these situations sometimes is that delay really is the word of the day. So we'll give you a look at that board here. And Naomi, as you mentioned, hundreds of canceled flights, also flights that are delayed. And it's a pretty even split between incoming and outgoing flights. And for all those leaving out of Newark, at least here in Terminal B where we are now, that means long lines at check-in counters all over the terminal of all different people who haven't taken off yet trying to rebook. Now, one passenger we spoke with was in the midst of doing just that after she boarded her flight to Charleston, waited on the runway for several hours, and then her flight was ultimately canceled. I bought another flight tomorrow morning. I hope that I can get on another flight this afternoon. My friend's in line for us. So hopefully that works out. But we almost rented a car for like $300 to get to New Haven to get on another flight, but then realized that was insane. So we've been sprinting around. So if you do have a flight today, definitely check your flight status before you come to the airport. If you do have a delay or anything like that, certainly be prepared to wait. The person of interest authorities took into custody in connection with the shooting at Brown University has been identified as Benjamin Erickson. He's a 24 year old, originally from Wisconsin.
