Their winning robot functions as a self-driving car, using only a camera to navigate obstacles and park autonomously. The team described the victory as an unreal and rewarding experience, emphasizing perseverance and the value of learning through repeated attempts.

And the first place winners for Future Engineers Award is Team Double X from Canada! Congratulations! Probably the best moment I've ever felt in my entire life. I honestly can't describe the feeling. I'm Michael. And I'm Emil. And we're Team Double A. And we are the 2025 WRO World Champions. It's very prestigious. The World Robot Olympiad has been there since 2003 or 2004. We started in fifth grade. We've won a lot of Canadian competitions and we've participated a lot to the world competitions. But this is by far our best placement. For 10 years and with barely any interruptions, this was kind of half of my life in a way. So it meant everything. We always had like struggles at the competitions and disappointments. And finally this year, everything went according to plan. Yeah! The robot is basically a mini car with a camera. And it does everything with a camera. We don't have any other sensor or anything. And it's like a self-driving car basically. So we have obstacles and it has to dodge the obstacles. And based on the color, it has to dodge left or right. And it also has to parallel park. So we knew we had a good chance of being somewhere near the top. But since there's also points given on documentation, we had no idea what the real score was. In second place! When they called second place, we didn't even know if we were next or if we dropped to the 9th or 10th. So it was all or nothing. I was like this, legs shaking. And when they announced it, I don't know. I remember the moment, but it felt really unreal. And walking up on stage, you can see us smiling and it's so real. Went to the podium, lifted the trophy in the air and that felt amazing. Honestly, keep trying because every time you try, you learn something new. So even if you don't win, you win knowledge. And at some point, it's going to pay out.
