A U.S. Navy officer, Lieutenant Commander Christopher Olsen, has been sentenced to 23 years in prison after pleading guilty to murdering his wife, Jessica, while stationed in Japan. The legal proceedings took place in San Diego, where Olsen admitted to the crime during a Navy hearing. 

Jessica, the 37-year-old victim, was originally from Monroe in Orange County. As part of his sentence, Olsen was dismissed from the Navy, will forfeit all pay, and has been ordered to pay over $10,000 in restitution to cover funeral expenses. The victim's family stated that while the sentencing brings some accountability, it cannot compensate for their loss.
