And sometimes, you know, things happen or come up in those relationships that perhaps you're not 100% aligned with or what have you. But it's not going to change the nature of our relationship with the Israelis. But we are going to have to talk about it." The latest point of contention between the countries is an Israeli strike carried out in Qatar. The country is a close U.S. ally. On Thursday, Israeli forces struck residential buildings in the capital of Doha, killing several Hamas members gathered to discuss a new American cease-fire proposal. U.S. President Donald Trump was critical of the strike. -"It's not a good situation. But I will say this. We want the hostages back. But we are not thrilled about the way that went down today." Over the two-day visit, Rubio will also push to resume negotiations toward a truce in Gaza. Despite numerous U.S. proposals, peace efforts have made little headway. The Israeli military has instead intensified operations in the enclave, planning to take full control of Gaza City. Frustration with Israel's offensive is growing internationally. On Friday, the U.N. General Assembly overwhelmingly voted in support of a plan for a two-state solution. Britain, France, Australia, and Canada, among others, are set to recognize a Palestinian state at the U.N. General Assembly later this month. But without real pressure from the U.S., many fear that these measures are in vain.
