Over the weekend, tens of thousands of people marched through London in a rally billed as in support of free speech. Many of the chants and speeches at the rally, which was organized by a far-right activist, were protesting against immigration.

A major rally in London, organized by far-right activist Tommy Robinson, attracted more than 100,000 participants, according to British police. While the event was promoted as a march for free speech, many of the chants and speeches focused on opposition to immigration and asylum seekers. 

The demonstration followed a series of smaller protests outside hotels housing asylum seekers. A counter-demonstration by anti-racism protesters took place nearby, leading to scuffles and several arrests as police worked to keep the groups apart. The British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, issued a response to the march.

It's tearing us apart. The organiser was a far-right anti-Islam campaigner who calls himself Tommy Robinson. His real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon and he's done time for assault, contempt of court and mortgage fraud. Some of the protesters were also from the far right. This is our country! Others said they were just frustrated about immigration and especially asylum seekers. The march follows a summer of small but angry protests outside hotels used by the British government to house asylum seekers. At the weekend march, Elon Musk dialed in with a warning for the British people. Violence is coming to you. You either fight back or you die. Refugees are welcome here! There was a much smaller counter-demonstration by anti-racism protesters As the police worked to keep the two groups apart there were scuffles and several arrests. The British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, responded to the march by saying Back to you. Polly, thank you so much.
