Several senior FBI officials, including former acting director Brian Driscoll, were dismissed without prior notice, according to multiple sources. Driscoll, a decorated agent with nearly 20 years of service, was let go alongside Steve Jensen and Walter Giordina, both of whom oversaw cases related to the president.

The firings have caused concern among FBI staff and prompted a response from the FBI Agents Association, which emphasized that agents do not choose their cases and acted with professionalism and integrity. The Department of Justice has not commented on the dismissals, and Driscoll stated he was not given a reason for his termination.

What we know about firing of former acting FBI director

Tonight, another shank up at the Justice Department. A former acting director and several FBI agents have been fired without warning. So turning, you know, Nicole, I just have to ask you, what do we know about the agents fired from the FBI in the past few days? Kelly, if the name Brian Driscoll sounds familiar, our viewers might remember that at the beginning of the Trump administration, the former acting head of the nation's largest law enforcement agency resisted handing over that list of his agents who worked on January 6th Capitol riot cases. Now, multiple sources tell CBS News that Driscoll, who's a recipient of the FBI's Medal of Valor and Shield of Bravery, has been pushed out after nearly 20 years of service alongside at least two others. Steve Jensen, the acting assistant director in charge of FBI's Washington field office and special agent Walter Giordina have also been dismissed. Both oversaw cases touching the president. The firings alarmed agency rank and file in a goodbye email to colleagues. Driscoll wrote that he has no answers as to why he was fired. The Department of Justice hasn't weighed in, but the FBI Agents Association released a letter writing that, quote, agents are not given the option to pick and choose their cases, and these agents carried out their assignments with professionalism and integrity, and most importantly, that they followed the law.

A ceasefire is in effect between Hamas and Israel after just over two years of war. An exchange of Israeli hostages and Palestinians held prisoner is set to take place in the coming days, and U.S President Donald Trump is set to visit the region on Monday.
