The Office of Management and Budget director announced that reductions in force have begun, with White House officials confirming significant cuts across various agencies. While the exact number of affected workers has not been specified, some have been informed they will be terminated in 60 days.

Democratic leaders have criticized the move as a scare tactic and are holding out for healthcare-related concessions in negotiations to reopen the government. In a separate development, the president underwent a routine physical examination at Walter Reed Medical Hospital, with no immediate health concerns reported.

Maurice, we first got word of this via a four-word social media post from the president's OMB director, Russ Vogt, at midday today. He said the rifts, or reduction in force, have begun, just as the president promised they would if this shutdown went unresolved. Now, White House officials confirmed that these are going to be, in their words, substantial reductions from several agencies. We haven't gotten specifics yet about the number of workers involved here, but we have confirmed that notices went out to some federal workers already, informing them that they're going to be fired in 60 days. Now, Democrats are calling this a scare tactic. They continue to hold out for concessions on health care in exchange for their votes to reopen the government. Nancy, on a separate topic, what have we learned about the president's trip to Walter Reed Medical Hospital today? Well, the president was at Walter Reed, John, for a total of about three hours today for what was essentially a semi-annual physical. His last full checkup was about six months ago. He said yesterday he likes to see the doctor more frequently so he can catch things early. Remember, it was just a few months ago that he was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency after he developed some swelling of the legs. His doctor said then that it was minor, that it was common. We haven't gotten any indication of any red flags from today's checkup yet.
