The village of Caledonia board's been discussing proposals for a data center there that would sit southwest of the Oak Creek Power Plant. That proposal has only been known by a nickname. It's been called Project Nova. Today, TMJ four's Jenna Ray learned it is Microsoft behind that 244 acre project. She started checking this out after a viewer emailed us asking us to get the word out. Jenna spoke with Prescott, who's opposed to the center and scott, who's in favor ahead of tonight's meeting. Yeah, we're an oasis of rural space sandwiched in between Oak Creek and Racine and we'd like to keep it that way. It's the sentiment of Prescott Bulge and hundreds more living in Caledonia who say they're opposed to a potential data center being built on. We energies land near Douglas Avenue and State Highway 32 basically across the street from the Oak Creek Power Plant. It's not because we're opposed to development, but we're in favor of smart development and we're in favor of maintaining the beauty and rural nature of this of this village. Prescott and the Caledonia residents against rezoning have been attending village board meetings all summer while these plans for what's being called Project Nova unfold right now. We know Project Nova is spearheaded by Dewberry Engineering. They're proposing a rezoning project which could green light a data center to be built on 244 acres of land. The village president says they've been in talks with Dewberry for 3-4 months and confirmed Tuesday. The proposed multi building campus will be operated by Microsoft. I think there's a pro there that it's a large, stable company that likely isn't gonna go bankrupt. On the other hand, the tiny little village of Caledonia of 22,000 people versus Microsoft is a battle that I don't think Caledonia wins. Whether it's Microsoft or any of the other big data companies out there, they're gonna build them. Scott York says he's in favor of the potential Microsoft plant coming to Caledonia. Bringing in sources like industry or like these data centers that will pay taxes can only help us initially. Yeah, it's a risk, but I mean, things don't stay the same. You think this will be beneficial in the long run? Yes. The long run. A main concern of Prescott's. He's hoping to have answered at Tuesday night's meeting. Are they gonna build all three buildings at the same time? What's what's the electrical use? What's the water use? Are they committing to building all three? Are they committing to a particular timeline? What happens if they don't meet that timeline? Are we gonna revert the zoning if they if they decide not to build etcetera in Caledonia?
