Let them get their land back. It's a major departure from the many times Trump has argued that Russia will likely get to keep some of the territory it has seized over the past three and a half years. Russia's a very big power, and they're not. Today, even Zelensky seemed surprised at Trump's response to a question about Russian drones recently spotted over Europe. Do you think that NATO countries should shoot down Russian aircraft if they enter their airspace? Yes, I do. Just hours earlier, in his UN address, Trump had berated Western allies. I'm really good at this stuff. Your countries are going to hell. With hundreds of world leaders looking on, Trump urged wealthy nations to seal their borders, as he has. Europe is in serious trouble. They've been invaded by a force of illegal aliens like nobody's ever seen before. He also urged them to reject clean energy, calling global warming a hoax. It's the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world, in my opinion. His combative tone was fueled in part by a faulty escalator that stopped just as he and the first lady were heading in for his address. The teleprompter is not working. A second malfunction didn't help. These are the two things I got from the United Nations, a bad escalator and a bad teleprompter. Thank you very much. Nancy, Trump had a lot of criticisms. How were they all received by leaders around the world? Well, these are trained diplomats, Maurice. So while there were some murmurs in the room at points during his speech, overall, the reaction here was quite muted, even when the president falsely claimed that the mayor of London, who is Muslim, wants to institute Sharia law there. But a spokesperson for the mayor called those comments, quote, appalling and bigoted. Nancy, the president also suggested that European nations stop buying oil and gas from Russia, which he said is funding their invasion of Ukraine. How did that go over? John, the president of the European Commission said he was exactly right. And she said that European nations have already largely phased out Russia and Russian oil and gas imports and they're going to be phasing the rest out by the end of the year. But the speech and that argument would have been carried even further had the president not also been using his speech to argue that Europeans should stop relying on homegrown renewable energy.
