He focused much of his monologue on the importance of free speech. This show is not important. What is important is that we get to live in a country that allows us to have a show like this. Just before the show aired, President Donald Trump posted, I can't believe ABC Fake News gave Jimmy Kimmel his job back adding, I think we're going to test ABC out on this. Trump referred to the multimillion dollar settlement with the network last year saying, this one sounds more lucrative. Kimmel was taken off the air by ABC parent company Disney after these comments on the killing of Charlie Kirk. We had some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it. Freedom! The suspension became a flashpoint over free speech in America. People canceling Disney and Hulu subscriptions. I hope that Bob Iger and the rest of the executives at Disney have seen this protest and that they've been moved by it. Disney said it reinstated the show after thoughtful conversations with the star but that doesn't mean everyone can see it. Two groups, Sinclair and Nextstar, which control about a quarter of ABC affiliates in the US will continue to preempt the show. Both Sinclair and Nextstar want to get larger and in order to get consolidation, in order to be able to buy more stations, they need FCC approval. And the Trump-appointed FCC chair has threatened consequences for networks. I mean, look, we can do this the easy way or the hard way.
