Typhoon Ragasa, noted as the most powerful tropical cyclone globally this year, is advancing across the South China Sea towards southern China. The storm has generated sustained winds of 200 kilometres per hour and prompted the highest weather warnings in Hong Kong and southern China, leading to widespread preparations among residents.

Prior to reaching China, Typhoon Ragasa caused severe flooding and destruction in the Philippines and Taiwan, with reports of 14 fatalities in Taiwan. Infrastructure and public services in the storm's projected path have been halted as communities brace for its arrival, while China has expressed condolences to those already affected.

Yesterday the waters weren't as high, but when I woke up it was already deep. And in Taiwan, where flooding has destroyed buildings and taken lives. China has already expressed its condolences for those affected elsewhere. Now it braces for its own impact. With infrastructure and public services at a standstill, people in its path are waiting and hoping their precautions hold.
