He stressed the importance of ensuring that developing countries, including smaller nations such as Papua New Guinea, receive the promised support to adapt and build resilience against the impacts of climate change.

Guterres also advocated for changes to the global financial system to give developing nations a stronger voice and influence in decision-making. The UN has consistently urged major global powers to lead efforts in advancing climate justice and supporting vulnerable countries.

He also called for reforms on the international financial system in order for developing countries to have a much stronger voice and a much stronger influence in the way decisions are taken. The United Nations has in the past few years called upon the international major global countries to lead reforms in climate justice.
