In nearby Mykolaiv, days of electricity outages mean less urgent requirements must be met too, like phone recharging. It's good such a service exists, says 67-year-old Tetiana. Next to her, Ihor says this latest Russian pressure will not change his mind about the conflict. They want to break us, yes, of course, as you can see, but we are not giving up. We came here, we didn't go anywhere, so we will wait and see where this leads. But we would like it all to stop, but not on terms that are being proposed there. Generators line the streets, a lifeline for local businesses facing days without mains power or much festive cheer. Residential buildings continue to be damaged, with many Ukrainians, like Tetiana, below her shattered roof questioning prospects for a peace deal with those attacking their homes. We must not agree to Russia's demands under any circumstances, under no circumstances. As temperatures plunge and power fails nationwide for hours each day, people here fear their heating systems may be the next to break down. And as Ukraine enters another bitterly cold winter in this war, Russia is once more repeatedly targeting energy infrastructure, further worsening the living conditions for the country's civilian population.
