In Ukraine, dedicated volunteers are making significant strides in rescuing people with limited mobility from active conflict zones. Dmytro and his team have successfully evacuated more than 3,000 vulnerable individuals, including the elderly and people with disabilities, from highly dangerous situations since the Russian invasion began.

Dmytro has been tirelessly driving thousands of kilometers each month to carry out these rescues. In a recent mission, he evacuated 84-year-old Lyudmila Kudrashova from Bilopilye, a city near the Russian border that has been under constant shelling. Dmytro has arranged for her to stay in a nursing home near Kiev, ensuring her safety from the ongoing conflict.

Dmytro's barrier-free foundation consists of about a hundred volunteers across various regions of Ukraine. These volunteers collaborate with the evacuees' relatives to ensure a smooth and safe evacuation process. In one instance, his team helped transport a bedridden woman safely from Bilopilye to a secure location, overcoming significant logistical challenges.

The foundation also managed to evacuate the Sokhon family along with their nine cats and several plants, securing accommodation for them in the Kiev region. Despite the complexities, Dmytro and his team remain unwaveringly dedicated, responding to evacuation requests daily.



Ukraine volunteers helping disabled and elderly

Hundreds of hours and tens of thousands of kilometers behind the wheel. Since December, on average, we've been driving around 6 or 7 thousand kilometers a month. Dmytro has been evacuating people with limited mobility and disabilities from the conflict areas since the beginning of the Russian invasion. Today, he and his team are rescuing 84-year-old Lyudmila Kudrashova from the northeastern city of Bilopilye. Thank God the evacuation went smoothly. Bilopilye is only 7 kilometers away from the border with Russia. The city is under constant shelling by the Russian army. Last week we were bombed, right in the center of the city. I live in the center of Bilopilye, on the main street. The bomb hit the house across the street. It was very, very scary. Dmytro has found a place for Lyudmila in a nursing home near Kiev. Sometimes we get attached to people, but we have to let them go. We treat these people not as strangers, but as if they were our relatives, our close friends, our family. And then it all becomes much harder. After the first evacuation, we had to see a psychologist because it was a very emotional process. Dmytro's barrier-free foundation has about a hundred volunteers in different regions of Ukraine. The volunteers work together with the relatives during the evacuation process. Dmytro had no idea how to transport his bedridden mother from Bilopilye to a safe place. Dmytro's team helped him. They provided a wheelchair, and they transported my mother in the train. They did everything well. They found a place for us. First we came to Trostenets. It was dangerous there too, but at least they didn't shoot at us. But the living conditions were bad. We had to constantly take care of our mother. Later we were able to find a better place. Then Dmytro's team managed to evacuate the entire Sokhon family, as well as nine cats and even some plants. They found a place to live in the Kiev region. The biggest challenge is to find a shelter for someone with a disability. To find a shelter that will include all the needs of this person. So if, for example, someone is completely bedridden, then they need to be given cooked food and hygiene services. As the war continues, Dmytro and his team receive evacuation requests every day. They say they haven't given up on their commitment to respond to all calls.
