A U.S. official tells CBS News Ukraine has agreed to the framework of a deal to end the war with Russia. This is a late-breaking development from war. We're joined by CBS News senior foreign correspondent Holly Williams, tracking this from our London bureau. Good morning, Holly. Update us on the status of Ukraine's position on this peace plan. Good morning, Errol. Yes, it's very significant news. A senior Ukrainian official posted on social media this morning that the U.S. and Ukraine have reached a, quote, common understanding on the core terms of the agreement. Now, we don't have any details on what that agreement is, but we do have a very good sense on what the sticking points were. President Trump's original 28-point peace plan, which we became aware of last week, required that Ukraine hand over swaths of territory permanently to Russia, that it reduce the size of its military. And it also said that Ukraine would be barred from joining NATO, the U.S.-led alliance that could protect Ukraine from future attack. Now, it has been over three years since Vladimir Putin launched his invasion, which sparked the war in Ukraine. And that Trump plan mirrored many of Russia's demands. The initial response from Ukraine's president, Vladimir Zelensky, was that the plan could mean the loss either of Ukraine's dignity or of a key partner, that is, the United States. However, after U.S. and Ukrainian officials rushed to meet on Sunday in Geneva, Zelensky started sounding much more upbeat. Last night, in an address to the nation, he said that changes had been made to that plan and it could become workable. Now, we cannot confirm those changes, but there's reporting that it could remove the veto on NATO membership for Ukraine, that it could include security guarantees for Ukraine, and that it may not restrict the size of Ukraine's military. But remember, if those are the changes that have been made, it seems unlikely that Vladimir Putin will ever agree. And then we'll be back to square one. We should also tell you that Ukrainian officials are hoping that President Zelensky will visit Washington in the coming days, perhaps later on this week. All right. Significant developments there.
