Russian President Vladimir Putin has reaffirmed his position that Ukrainian forces must withdraw from occupied regions in eastern Ukraine for hostilities to cease. Speaking in Kyrgyzstan, Putin stated that Moscow has no intention of slowing its military campaign or entering negotiations with Kyiv.

Putin further rejected calls from Ukraine, the United States, and the European Union for a ceasefire and direct talks. He also insisted that the United States recognize Russian control over occupied Ukrainian territories.

But in his remarks on Thursday, Putin rejected this possibility. Instead, Vladimir Putin said Moscow wants the United States to recognize Russia-occupied territories of Ukraine.
