He was ordered to a federal police jail cell in the capital, following his conviction for plotting a coup after losing the 2022 presidential election to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Bolsonaro's son criticized the court's decision, citing his father's age and health concerns, including a recent skin cancer diagnosis. The Supreme Court has mandated full-time medical care for Bolsonaro, who was removed from home detention after being deemed a flight risk for tampering with his ankle monitor.

It is the least that he should be attended to because the law guarantees this to him due to his age, the comorbidities he has. This is cruelty and it is a very great risk to his health, to his life. A Supreme Court justice has ordered full-time medical care to be given to Bolsonaro, who was diagnosed with skin cancer earlier this year. The 70-year-old was removed from home detention on Saturday for being considered a flight risk after attempting to open his ankle monitor with a soldering iron. He insisted that he had no intention of fleeing, blaming medicine-induced paranoia for his actions. The doctors themselves state that the combination of those medications he indeed took has the side effect of mental confusion. So if he wanted to escape, he would have cut the ankle monitor with scissors and would have just gone out. In September, Bolsonaro was found guilty of plotting a coup after losing the 2022 election to his left-wing rival President Lula. The former president cast the trial as a witch hunt aimed at stopping him running in next year's presidential election.
