At least two students are in critical condition after being shot at Evergreen High School in Colorado, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

A shooting occurred at Evergreen High School in Jefferson County, resulting in three individuals being transported to the hospital in critical condition. Law enforcement responded quickly, with multiple agencies assisting and the school placed on lockdown as officers cleared classrooms and evacuated students.

Authorities have not yet identified the shooter or confirmed if they have been apprehended. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has advised the public to avoid the area while the investigation continues and updates are awaited.

We know that they are in critical condition and it is not clear who the shooter was or if they have been captured. So we're following this sad story in addition to the events out of Utah today as well. As if to underscore how violent the times are that we live in, I'm looking at the gun violence archive right now. 10,350 homicides in this country, 300 mass shootings to date. The number of children killed, 167. Injured, 351. The leading cause of death for our young people by gunshot. Let's go right now to our Scripps News Group, Salt Lake City. They're rolling coverage of the, oh let's go, we're going to go to Denver right now. Yeah, Micah, this is the area away from the high school where, you know, media is getting those updates, what little updates we're able to share with you at this point. Now, just within the last half hour, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office did give us the information they are able to receive right now, which was just shortly after 12-30. They started getting calls about an active shooter and then more calls and more calls. And the Sheriff's Office says that made it very clear very early on that this was a very serious situation. Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in the response. We even saw some ourselves while we were driving up to Evergreen, still responding even this late in the afternoon. They say as of right now, the law enforcement is going classroom to classroom, clearing out, Veronica showed you earlier, those school buses that are taking students who are outside of the school to the reunification center where parents can connect with them. But for right now, the Sheriff's Office says they don't know exactly who else is still in the school, but they want to make sure the whole entire building is clear. So that's what they're doing right now, going from classroom to classroom. As we've been telling you, three people have been injured. We did ask about any information about the suspect, if they were a student, if they were related to the school at all. No information about that just yet. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office does have people here on scene to give us updates as soon as those are able to be released. They say right now, the town of Evergreen should just be avoided. The extensive police response to this and all of the assisting agencies have blocked off a lot of roads. They say just avoid this entire area so law enforcement is able to do their jobs. Right now, again, we do know that those calls of an active shooter at Evergreen High School came in just after 1230, a really scary situation and at least three people injured.
