Israel has claimed responsibility for a targeted airstrike on Hamas leaders in Doha, the capital of Qatar. The Israeli military and Shin Bet, the country's intelligence agency, stated that the operation, named 'Summit of Fire,' was carried out by the Israeli Air Force. 

Social media footage showed smoke rising over the Qatara district, a well-known cultural area in Doha. At least one senior Hamas official, Khalil al-Hayya, who has served as the group's chief negotiator in ceasefire and hostage talks, was reported killed. The Qatari government has condemned the attack as a violation of international law, while Israel indicated that additional Hamas members may have been targeted.

We have breaking news from the Middle East, where Israel says it has carried out a targeted strike on Hamas leaders. According to one Israeli official, this happened in Doha, the capital of the Persian Gulf country of Qatar. The government there calls it a, quote, cowardly attack that violates international law. Rami Innocencio has more on this developing story. Rami? Yes, Tony, we are following reports of explosions in Doha. This is the capital of Qatar, and social media videos show smoke rising over a district known as Qatara, and this is a popular cultural hub. Israel's military and Shin Bet, the country's spy agency, are claiming responsibility. They released a statement saying it was the Israeli Air Force that carried out a targeted attack on Hamas, this operation called Summit of Fire. Now, to put this into important context, Doha has been the political base for Hamas' senior leadership for over the past dozen years, and we are getting reports that at least one senior Hamas official has been assassinated. His name is Khalil al-Hayya. He's been Hamas' chief negotiator in ceasefire and hostage talks. Israel says that Hamas members, plural here, were targeted, so we will be looking to see if any other names do appear. There are unverified reports at this point that there are more senior Hamas officials that have been killed. Israel's military and spy agency also said they will continue to act with determination to defeat Hamas. Right now, that is the latest we know at this point. Gail, more as we get it.
