King Charles and Prince Harry have met at Clarence House in London, marking their first in-person meeting in over 18 months. The meeting lasted approximately 50 minutes, and Buckingham Palace has declined to provide further details.

The reunion comes after a period of estrangement following Prince Harry and Meghan's decision to step back from royal duties and move to California in 2020. Prince Harry has been in the UK for charity events and to mark the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's death. There is no indication that Prince Harry met with other members of the royal family during his visit.

Breaking news from London. Prince Harry was seen arriving at Clarence House today for a meeting with his father King Charles. It's their first reunion in more than a year and a half. The two have been estranged since Harry and his wife Meghan left royal life moving to California in 2020 and airing public grievances about his family. The last time Harry and Charles met was February 2024 when the Duke of Sussex flew to London after his father was diagnosed with cancer. The CBC's Hilary Johnstone joins us now with more on all this. So what do we know about their visit? Well, Andrew, we know that the two that King Charles and Prince Harry that they met this afternoon at Clarence House, which is the official residence of King Charles and Queen Camilla in London and that they had tea that the meeting lasted for about 50 minutes or so. But Buckingham Palace also telling the BBC after this meeting took place that they would not be commenting any further on it. But you're looking at fitted footage here, video of Prince Harry arriving for that meeting. Like you're saying, Andrew, first time in more than 18 months now, since father and son since the king and Prince Harry have met face to face and Prince Harry has been in the UK for a couple of days now arriving on Monday. That was the third anniversary of the death of Queen Elizabeth the second he was there. He laid flowers at her grave and he has been in the UK for a number of charity engagements. And there were questions about whether or not these two were going to meet face to face and now hearing that the king flew in from Scotland earlier this afternoon in order for this meeting to take place. And Prince Harry is expected to return to California tomorrow on Thursday. And of course, there has been a rift. This relationship has been strained not just between the king and Prince Harry, but between Prince Harry and other members of his family for some time now, ever since Prince Harry and his wife, who was formerly known as Meghan Markle, now Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, decided to step back from some of their senior royal duties in 2020. So remind us of some of that because the relationship, as you say, between the king and the prince has, I guess he's the duke now, is he still Prince Harry? It has been strained. The relationship has definitely been difficult at times. So back in 2020, Prince Harry and his wife decided that they were no longer going to be working senior members of the royal family moved to California and then aired some of the family's grievances, which other members of the royal family would seem did not take kindly. Of course, you'll remember that famous interview that Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, did with Oprah Winfrey a couple of years ago. And then Prince Harry and his brother, Prince William, have also had a strained relationship for the past couple of years. So no indication at this point if those two will be meeting. But Harry was last in the UK back in April. That was when a court rejected his bid to restore police protection detail that had been canceled after he stopped being a working royal. Charles was not there at the time. But now that that case is done, some royal watchers have said that there might be the opportunity for this relationship to be repaired. And in May, Prince Harry sat down with the BBC and told them that he would like to reconcile with his family and that, in his view, there was no point in continuing to fight anymore.
