An episode he brought up in his address to gathered leaders, as he railed against the world body. All I got from the United Nations was an escalator that on the way up stopped right in the middle. Trumpeting himself as a peacemaker, the US president repeatedly made the spurious claim that he's ended seven wars since he returned to office, while the United Nations looked on. I ended seven wars, dealt with the leaders of each and every one of these countries and never even received a phone call from the United Nations offering to help. What is the purpose of the United Nations? The UN has such tremendous potential. I've always said it. It has such tremendous, tremendous potential, but it's not even coming close to living up to that potential. Trump has worked to undermine the United States' support for the UN since his return to the White House this year, withdrawing from the World Health Organization and the UN Human Rights Council and clawing back $1 billion in funding. This at one of the most volatile moments in the world body's 80-year-old history, as its Secretary General warned. We have our work cut out for us as our ability to carry out that work is being cut from us. What kind of world will we choose? A world of raw power or a world of laws?
