Police are alerting the public to a cryptocurrency scam that has resulted in the theft of millions of dollars from individuals seeking remote work. According to the State Sheriffs Association, scammers contact victims via unsolicited text messages, encouraging them to open cryptocurrency accounts and deposit funds under the pretense of reviewing products for market data.

Victims are promised a return of their investment plus commission, but the deposited funds are instead transferred to the scammers' crypto wallets. One New York resident reportedly lost over $100,000. Authorities advise anyone receiving such messages not to respond and to report the incident to the Attorney General's office.
