Tesla's self-driving feature mode has become available to the public. However motoring experts warn that the technology is not perfect, warning drivers they they are ultimately still responsible behind the wheel.

A recent demonstration in North Sydney showcased Tesla's full self-driving mode, where the vehicle managed tasks such as reverse parking and responding to nearby vehicles. While the technology allows for hands-off driving under supervision, it does not make the car fully autonomous, and the driver must remain ready to intervene at all times.

The system includes a camera to monitor driver attention and issues warnings if the driver appears distracted. Despite safely reaching its destination, the car parked in front of a driveway, highlighting the technology's imperfections. Drivers remain legally responsible for the vehicle, and the software update enabling full self-driving mode costs $10,000.

While I'm watching what's ahead, the Tesla is watching me. A camera just above that centre mirror is making sure my eyes don't leave the road, and if I get distracted, a warning will be sent to the car. The technology isn't perfect. While it got us to our destination safely, the car parked itself right in front of someone's driveway. It's amazing technology, but is it safe? I'm not sure. Just stay away from me. Even with supervised self-driving switched on, whoever is behind the wheel is still responsible. If you're deemed to have been distracted, or not to have been in control of the vehicle, then you can be charged, and you will be charged. Which could be costly. Also expensive, the feature itself.
