On Monday, Kimmel commented about Tyler Robinson, the man charged with Charlie Kirk's murder, connecting him to President Trump's MAGA followers. With the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it. That was followed by harsh reaction from FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, who appeared on a podcast Wednesday. I mean, look, we can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to change conduct to take action, frankly, on Kimmel or, you know, there's going to be additional work for the FCC ahead. And late today, ABC Network announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live will be preempted indefinitely, saying it, quote, strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk. That came after Nextar Media Group, one of the biggest owners of local TV stations in the country, said it was pulling the late night show indefinitely from its more than two dozen ABC stations. Brian Steinberg is senior TV editor for Variety. Kimmel appears to have punched the nerve and is getting a lot of pushback. And I think Disney just wants to get off the grid for a little while and let things settle out. Jimmy Kimmel Live debuted in 2003 and has long been a thorn in the side of politicians, including most notably President Trump, who pointed him out soon after the announcement ending the Stephen Colbert show. Fallon has no talent. Kimmel has no talent. They're next. They're going to be going. I hear they're going to be going. I think it's a chilling event. These are people who are supposed to be able to talk freely, make jokes as they see fit. And the fact they're being pulled off the air by their owner because of doing their own thing, as they've done many times in the past, is a little discombobulating and not the norm. And affiliate programming will now fill that time slot. It's unclear if Kimmel will return to the air and what this decision means for the larger media landscape moving forward.
