Nearly 200 authentic artifacts and archival documents are displayed at the Musée de la civilisation in Quebec City to reveal the different realities of those who were on board the world’s most famous shipwreck.

The Musée de la Civilisation in Quebec City is hosting 'Titanic, the Human Story Exhibition,' which immerses visitors in early 20th-century society through life-size recreations and authentic artifacts from the Titanic. Some items are being displayed in Canada for the first time, including a necklace that inspired a key plotline in James Cameron's film adaptation.

The exhibition features 200 artifacts and archival documents, highlighting personal stories of passengers such as Kate Phillips, whose necklace is on display. The exhibit also includes a memorial section listing the names of survivors and victims, emphasizing the shared human experience of the tragedy. Due to high visitor interest, the exhibition has been extended and will now run until March 2026.

Step aboard the Titanic exhibit bringing passenger stories to life

We have a beautiful model of the Titanic. I'm Geneviève Demuis, I'm a Project Manager for Exhibitions at Musée de la Civilisation and welcome to Titanic, the Human Story Exhibition. Curators are hoping to transport visitors back to early 20th century society with life-size recreations that allow them to have an immersive experience. The artifacts displayed in this museum were once on board one of the most famous ships in the world and they went down with the Titanic. Now it's the first time some of them are being viewed in Canada and it's attracting a record number of visitors. We have the gate, a little gateway. We will cross a corridor inspired by a corridor from first class and once you will go on the other side, you will be on board the Titanic in a safe way. So this is the passage? The passage, yeah. The reason why I was attracted to the Titanic is that the Titanic, as my 12-year-old daughter saw it, it reminds us of memories and visually we can see things in the rooms, for example the dishes. This is my first visit, I will come back for sure. There's 200 authentic artifacts and archival documents here that tell the stories of some of the passengers who were on board, but one of them is creating a little bit of buzz and a lot of interest from the visitors and it's a necklace that inspired a key plotline in James Cameron's adaptation of the Titanic. It's the necklace of Kate Phillips, you can see her here. She travelled on second class, she was with her boyfriend here and she got to a boat, a lifeboat when the Titanic sank. But not her boyfriend, but he gave her this necklace. Here at the end, it's like a memorial. For visitors, that's I think the part where people are really moved by what they see here because you have, it's graphic, but representation of the names of everybody who survived or not. So here it's for the third class, you have the names of people who survived, but look at the bottom, it's everybody who died. It was the unsinkable ship, you know. So it's fascinating and also because rich people or poor people, they all died all together. So I think, you know, it's about human stories and we can still connect. Due to the success of the exhibit, the Musée de la Civilisation has extended it. It will now run until March 2026.

About 200 U.S. troops have begun arriving in Israel to set up a coordination center aimed at facilitating the flow of humanitarian aid, as well as logistical and security assistance into Gaza. They are not expected to enter the territory.
