Her exit comes after a standards adviser found she'd breached the ministerial code when she underpaid stamp duty property tax on a second home by £40,000, something Rayner has said was an honest mistake that she deeply regrets. I relied on that legal advice that I received that said that I was liable to pay the standard stamp duty. Subsequently to that, with all of the media reports that have been coming out, I took expert council advice on all of my affairs to ensure that everything was done proper and that expert council said that the advice that I received was inaccurate. Her resignation means Starmer is reshuffling his cabinet. David Lammy has been appointed as the new Deputy Prime Minister, while Yvette Cooper has stepped in as Foreign Secretary. Shabana Mahmood has taken her post as Home Secretary. This probably wasn't the reset Starmer was hoping for after his first year saw his poll ratings plummet. Labour is facing a strong challenge from the anti-immigration reform party, led by Nigel Farage, who are holding a national conference in Birmingham this Friday, an opportunity for Farage to attack Labour and opposition Conservatives. But in the middle of this meltdown of these two parties that have dominated for 100 years British politics, in the middle of all of this, there is a new, strong, unified party that speaks with one voice. Farage told attendees they were about to witness a big rift in the Labour party and to prepare for an early general election in 2022.
